June 9, 2014
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Krystal Wharton will represent the UNLV track & field program at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship hosted this week by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Wharton qualified for the meet after she finished 10th at the NCAA West Preliminary in Fayetteville, Ark., two weeks ago.
The Las Vegas native enters Wednesday's competition (trials/final) seeded 22nd overall after she registered a career-best distance of 20-1.5 (6.13m) on her second attempt at the West Preliminary. The event is slated to begin at 4:15 pm PT.
Just one year ago, the Rebels had some success at Hayward Field with the 4x100m relay - Emily Blok, Uchechi Anunkor, Ashley Franklin and Monay Meggs - being named to the USTFCCCA All-America Second Team after it finished 13th overall. Individually, Blok (200m) and Myshauna Alexander (javelin) were tabbed to the Honorable Mention Team in their respective events.
