LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field assistant coach Jebreh Harris has been selected as the men's distance coach for Team USATF at the IAAF U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland next month. Harris will serve as an assistant on men's head coach Kim Dismuke's staff alongside Dan Mecca (throws), Kevin Reid (jumps/multis) and Manny Bautista (head manager).
This will be Harris' second stint with Team USATF, as he was the squad's event manager at the 2016 North American, Central America & Caribbean (NACA) U23 Championships in El Salvador.
Harris came to UNLV in September 2012, and serves as the Rebel cross country head coach in addition to his roles as the middle- and long-distance track coach and recruiting coordinator.
Over the past two years, he has helped the Scarlet & Gray finish in the top three in Mountain West competition. The indoor squad took home its first MW title this year after it was a runner-up in 2017. The 2018 outdoor team took second, while it was third one year ago. Additionally, he guided Kaysee Pilgrim to 2017 USTFCCCA First Team All-American status in the high jump (outdoor) and Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete to Second Team honors in the 800m during the 2018 indoor and outdoor campaigns.
He has mentored four student-athletes -- Wilson-Perteete, Auzsane Crowe-Carter, Mandy Chitwood and Kelsey Williamson -- to a total of 11 MW All-Conference Team honors after they posted 11 top-three finishes in the 800m at the conference championships (2013-18). Additionally, Pilgrim was a two-time All-MW performer (once indoor and outdoor) in the high jump under his watch
Since his arrival, the program's indoor and outdoor all-time performance marks for the 600m (indoor), 800m (indoor), 5000m (indoor), distance medley relay (indoor) and high jump (outdoor) have been rewritten.
