BEAVERTON, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will see one of its own compete in London this summer at the 2012 Olympic Games, as Amanda Bingson finished second overall in Thursday's hammer throw at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials held at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Bingson qualified for the Olympics with a personal-best throw of 71.78m (235-6), which after four rounds was the best distance among the field of 24 competitors. Amber Campell's (Nike) fifth throw edged out Bingson's mark by two one hundredths of a meter (71.78m/235-6) for the top spot.

"Coming up here (Oregon) all I wanted to do was get to the finals and do well," said Bingson. "I didn't know I was going to do this well though. As soon as I threw that 71.22 I knew that the "A" standard was in me. I just relaxed, went for it and got it. I was in such disbelief at first, but this has been my best series all year. I'm ready to represent the USA at the Olympics and just live this up to the fullest!"

Overall, Bingson surpassed the 70-meter barrier on three occasions Thursday after achieving the feat once as a Rebel - 71.04 (233-1) at the 2012 NCAA West Preliminary.

Bingson and Campbell will be joined in London by Jessica Cosby (Nike), who finished third overall with a throw of 70.77m (232-2).

"Amanda really showed up today and believed that she could do what she needed to do to make the U.S. Team," said UNLV head coach Yvonne Wade. "We are so proud of her and look forward to watching her wear the Red, White and Blue in London."

Bingson may not be the only Rebel to head across the pond for the Olympics, as UNLV track & field assistant coach Khadevis Robinson will compete in the first round of the men's 800m Friday at 5:20 pm.

UNLV's Brett Zorich was on the cusp of making the final cut for the women's 800m, her qualifying time fell just short.
