EUGENE, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - Former UNLV student-athlete Christine Spence ran the seventh-fastest time in the first round of the women's 400m hurdles Thursday night at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Spence clocked a time of 56.28 and finished second overall in her heat.

Spence, who donned the Scarlet & Gray from 2001-05, advances to Friday's semifinals at 3:20 pm. She is hoping to improve upon her sixth-place finish at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which coincidentally were also held in Eugene.

The native of Lee's Summit, Mo., is looking to become the third Rebel to represent the Red, White & Blue this summer at the 2012 London Olympics. Amanda Bingson and Khadevis Robinson both finished second in their respective sports, the women's hammer throw and the men's 800m.
