July 25, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field squad was named a 2013 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team by the USTFCCCA for the fourth straight year behind its 3.01 cumulative GPA. UNLV was one of 187 programs to earn honors for its efforts not only in competition, but also inside the classroom.
Individually, UNLV had three student-athletes - Kelsey Williamson, Emily Blok and Ashley Franklin - named to the USTFCCCA's 2013 All-Academic Track & Field Team. Both Williamson (3.63, business marketing) and Blok (3.38, kinesiology) are four-time recipients of the award, while Ashley Franklin (3.25, kinesiology) is a first-time honoree.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championship (including preliminary rounds).
The USTFCCCA academic awards come one month after the Rebel program had 13 of its student-athletes named to the 2013 Spring Academic All-Mountain West Team.
