MOSCOW (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will have two of its alumnae participate for the Red, White & Blue in Moscow at the 2013 IAAF World Championships from Aug. 10-18. Christine Spence (2001-05) and Amanda Bingson (2009-12) qualified for the international competition after finishing third or better in their respective events at the 2013 USA Outdoor Championships in June.
Spence will be the first to compete in Russia's capital city with her participation in the women's 400m hurdles on Monday, Aug. 12. She will compete in the first round at 11:50 am, less than two months after finishing third at the national meet in a time of 54.56.
Bingson, the current American record holder and US Champion in the hammer throw, will have to wait until Wednesday, Aug. 14 (9:30 am) for her qualifying round. She set the American record twice in Des Moines, Iowa on June 22. She initially broke the mark on her second throw (245-9/74.92m) before she one-upped herself on the following attempt. That toss of 248-5 (75.73m) ranks her sixth overall in the 2013 standings.
Please note that Moscow is 11 hours ahead of Las Vegas.
Spence's Schedule: Aug. 12: Round 1 (11:50 am) Aug. 13: Semis (7:05 pm) Aug. 15: Finals (8:45 pm)
