LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field assistant coach Larry Wade will be a featured speaker this week at the MF-Athletics U.S. All-Star Track & Field and Cross Country Clinic, which is being held in Atlantic City, N.J. Wade and 13 other individuals were selected to speak at the three-day event (Wednesday-Friday) on subjects ranging from technique, training and drills, strength training, nutrition and injury prevention to 1,000 attendees at the Tropicana Casino & Resort.
Wade is scheduled to participate in four sessions: hurdle training (Thursday), hurdle drills (Friday), 100m-200m training (Friday) and sprint starts (Friday).
Wade is one of a few coaches in the nation that has coached both a female sprinter and a male sprinter to sub-11 and sub-10 seconds in the 100m, respectively. He has also coached a male hurdler to sub-13 seconds in the 110m hurdles and a female hurdler to sub-13 seconds in the 100m hurdles.
Last year alone, Wade's Rebel student-athletes posted 30 indoor personal-best times with 12 of them making the program's all-time top-10 list. During the outdoor campaign, he, once again, had 30 personal-best with seven of those resulting in program records. Additionally, he had 10 NCAA Regional qualifiers and five NCAA Championships qualifiers, with the 4x100m relay and Destiny Smith-Barnett (200m) earn USTFCCCA Second Team All-America recognition.
The 1998 Texas A&M graduate and Hall of Fame inductee was a two-time national champion and five-time All-American has coached American Carmelita Jeter to a gold and bronze medal in the 4x100m relay and 100m, respectively at the 2007 World Championships. He also mentored American Candise Davis to a silver medal in the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships, and coached Rodney Martin (4x100m relay/USA), Shevon Stoddart (400m hurdles/Jamaica) and Fabien Fareez (200m/France) to spots on their 2008 Olympic Teams.
