LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field alum Amanda Bingson won the "Best Record Breaking Performance" Award at the Jesse Owens Awards and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Indianapolis, Ind., this past weekend.

Bingson was nominated for three USA Track & Field Fan's Choice Awards after her record-setting performance at this year's USA Outdoor Championships. She broke the American record in the hammer throw twice at the national meet held in Des Moines, Iowa. She initially reset the benchmark with a toss of 245-9 (74.92m) before she one-upped herself by nearly three feet (248-5.75.73m) on her next toss. By virtue of her first-place finish, she earned a spot on her second US national team.

Besides the category that she won, the Las Vegas native was also nominated for the "Field Performance of the Year" and the "Breakthrough Athlete of the Year" Awards. The former was won by Jenn Suhr, who set a world record in the pole vault at the USA Indoor Championships en route to her seventh U.S. indoor title, while the latter was claimed by Mary Cain, a top high school runner that set six national records in three races and won a national title.
