LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebel volleyball team (1-1) picked up its first victory of the 2006 season with a 3-1 win over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (0-2) Saturday afternoon at the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels jumped outto a quick 2-0 lead in their own UNLV Classic and held off a pesky ORU squad for the decisive game-four win. UNLV won by game-scores of 30-27, 30-16, 32-34, 30-25.

The Rebels out hit the Golden Eagles .277 to .145 and held a staggering advantage in the kill department with a 73-to-57 edge. UNLV hit no worse that .184 in the match. ORU topped out at a .319 hitting percentage in its game-three win.

UNLV had four players collect double-digit kill figures with Jennifer Johnson tallying a match-high 21 kills. Maria Aladjova threw down 17 kills of her own and was followed by Lauren Miramontes' 10 and Erin Greenwood's 10. Greenwood held the match's highest hitting percentage with a .562 average (10 kills, one error, 16 attempts).

Melody Nua finished the match with 58 of the Rebels' 67 assists.

The Rebels had three players notch double-digit digs with Michelle Banks stopping 19 Golden Eagle attacks. Jada Walker pitched in with 18 stops, while Camille Cunningham had 16.

Ori Zuzic led ORU with the match's only double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Jaqueline Oliveira had 13 kills to place second on the squad. Thais Parada entered the contest in the third game and wound up with a team-high 31 assists, while Brittany Arnold had 13. Cris Alves dug out 25 Rebel attacks, while Carol Garbato had 11.

Up next for UNLV is a 7 pm tilt with the Oregon State Beavers (2-0) tonight. Prior to the UNLV-OSU match, Cal Poly and Oral Roberts serve it up at 4:30 pm.
