LOS ANGELES - The UNLV women's volleyball team dropped its season opener in a 3-0 (30-18, 30-21, 30-27) loss to Loyola Marymount on Friday night at the Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles.
Senior outside hitter Leiana Oswald led the Rebel attack with 10 kills. She needed just three kills to become UNLV's all-time career leader and can now call the record her own with 919 kills. She also put together her first double-double of the season with 11 digs, two blocks and one assist.
Junior Nicki King finished the match with 27 assists, eight digs, two assists and a block.
Four Rebels finished with six kills each. Senior Sheila Ocasio-Clemente and junior Tarin Keith put up six kills and three digs each. Ocasio-Clemente hit .364 (6-2-11) for the match. Freshman Michelle Banks also put up six kills and was one dig away from a double-double with nine. Senior Patricia Assuncao also posted six kills with six digs.
Loyola Marymount was led by Kendra Kimball who finished the match with 15 kills, 13 digs and a .286 attack percentage.
UNLV continues tournament play on Saturday with a pair of matches. The Rebels take on Sacramento State at 10 a.m., followed by West Virginia at 5 p.m.
