Rebels Win In Four Sets Against The Highlanders

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV volleyball program defeated the UC Highlanders (0-2) Saturday morning behind double-doubles from Daryn Glenn and Alexis Patterson. The 3-1 win (25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-15) pushes the Rebels' record to 2-1 with two matches left to play in its own UNLV Invitational held at the Cox Pavilion.

The Scarlet & Gray owned a .293 efficiency in the contest with four sets of .214 or better averages. The Rebels began the match with their best hitting performance - a .438 effort - before they went .214, .250 and .294 in the subsequent stanzas. UCR, on the other hand, hit .171 overall despite .281 and .311 performances in the first two frames.

UNLV threw down two more kills (58-56) and committed nine fewer errors (17-28) in 24 less attempts (140-164).

Glenn was active at the net with match highs in kills (19) and hitting efficiency (.543) besides contributing four total blocks (one solo) and one assist. She combined her kills total with 11 digs to achieve her first double-double of the year and 18th of her career.

Patterson coupled a match-high 44 assists with 12 digs for the first double-double of her career, and it came one day after she missed out on the feat by one dig in the Cal State Northridge affair. She was also provided five kills and three assisted blocks.

Overall, UNLV had 13.0 total team blocks with Bree Hammel and Ashley Owens contributing six (one solo) and five (one solo), respectively.

Allison Davies led the Rebels in digs with 17 to give the Rebels three players with double figures in the category.



The Highlanders were paced offensively by 15 kills from Tyler Dorsey and 13 more from Fabiana Rosas, who also had nine digs. Haili Hoeft topped the team in assists with 41. Maddie Hubbell recorded a match high 18 digs.

UNLV returns to the court at 6:30 pm in a rematch against CSUN (2-0). The Matadors knocked off Western Kentucky (1-2) in the 1:30 pm match Saturday by a 3-0 final score.

NOTES: In UNLV's career record book, Glenn moved into sixth place in total attempts (2,458).
