MORAGA, Calif. - The UNLV volleyball team (2-1) split a pair of contests on the final day of the St. Mary's Tournament on Saturday. The Rebels opened the day with a decisive 3-0 (30-14, 30-14, 30-16) victory over Army and followed it with a 0-3 (27-30, 24-30, 27-30) loss to St. Mary's. A late schedule change forced UNLV to play back-to-back matches on Saturday night.

UNLV out-hit Army .485 (44-11-68) to .127 (20-12-63) in the three-game match. Patricia Assuncao led all players with 11 kills and was nearly perfect, hitting .917 (11-0-12) in the match. She also finished with four digs and two service aces.

Leiana Oswald dropped 10 kills on the Black Knights with three digs and three service aces. Sophomore Nicki King served up 22 assists in the match, while freshman Adriana Franco got her first opportunity to play this season and added nine assists.

UNLV struggled offensively against St. Mary's despite keeping the match close in each game. The Rebels hit only .127 (33-19-110) in the final match of the tournament.

Oswald continued to play well and led the team with a double-double 10 kills and 10 digs. Assuncao added six kills, six blocks and seven digs.

Sophomore transfer Jodi Hendricks had her best match of the short season, dropping seven kills on the Gaels.

King and Assuncao were named to the All-Tournament Team. Brooke Lowry (St. Mary's), Tiffany Brooks (UC Riverside), Lindsey Bogoson (St. Mary's) and Pam Hartman (UC Riverside) round out the all-tournament selections. Lowry was also named Tournament MVP.

UNLV returns home next weekend to host the UNLV/Gameworks Classic from Sept. 6-8 in the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels will host Texas Tech, California and Ball State in the three-day, six-match tournament.
