LAS CRUCES, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (3-3) lost a 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 21-25) decision to the No. 11 UCLA Bruins (5-0) at the NM State SpringHill Suites Invitational Saturday morning. The Rebels will play, once more, Saturday in the tournament finale against New Mexico State at the Pan American Center (6:00 pm PT/7:00 pm MT).

Riley Jacobs paced the Scarlet & Gray with 30 of the team's 32 assists. Jacobs added two kills and one ace as well as three digs.

Mariena Hayden led the Rebels with eight kills and also had 10 digs. Elsa Descamps and Thea Sweder followed with seven kills apiece while Ashley Owens had six of her own.

Leka Kiner-Falefa had 11 digs to join Hayden with double figures in digs.

UCLA outhit UNLV by 156 points (.321 to .165), with help from it's offense registering .273 or better hitting efficiencies and committing five or fewer errors in all three sets. The Bruins notched 11 more kills (46-35) than the Rebels, who had five more errors (17-12) in three more attack attempts (109-106). Both teams had their best hitting efforts in the second set, as UCLA tallied a .359 compared to UNLV's .216.

THE TURNING POINT: UCLA used 4-1 runs to distance itself from UNLV in all three sets after the score had been tied at 12-all in the first, 9-all in the second and 17-all in the third. The Rebels managed to pull within two points as the match progressed in the first and second frames and got within one (21-20) in the third and final stanza.

STAT OF THE GAME: UCLA had 46 kills as a team with 26 of those coming from the duo of Mac May (16 kills) and Reilly Buechler (10). May and Buechler only committed three errors to combine for a .404 hitting efficiency.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacobs had 30 assists, three digs, two kills and one ace.

QUOTABLE: "We did a good job blocking and serving, but we need to get all of our hitters firing," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Thea (Sweder) and Elsa (Descamps) hit well and Leka (Kiner-Falefa) played a strong back row. We played right with them until 18 or 19 points, and then we didn't finish strong enough."

REBEL NOTES:
*Saturday's match between UNLV and UCLA was only the second between the two programs, with the latter winning both meetings.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels close out their stay at the NM State SpringHill Suites Invitational with a match against the New Mexico State Aggies at 6:00 pm PT (7:00 pm MT). The contest will be streamed live via the WAC Digital Network, and a link to view the affair will be provided at UNLVRebels.com.

REBELS AT HOME: The Rebels return to Las Vegas and the Cox Pavilion to host their own UNLV Challenge on September 8-9. The Scarlet & Gray will welcome Weber State, UC Irvine and Louisville to Las Vegas for the two-day, round-robin tournament.
