Lions Invade Rebels' Den

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (1-4) dropped its final match of the their Alexis Park Classic with a 3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 22-25) decision to the Loyola Marymount Lions (4-2) Saturday night from the Cox Pavilion. The UCLA Bruins, who went 3-0 in the tournament, took home the Classic's championship. Idaho finished second at 2-1, while LMU (2-1) and UNLV (0-3) rounded out the quartet of teams.
The Lions out-hit the Rebels by a .299 to .126 margin and managed to throw down 14 more kills (43-to-29) in the process. LMU amassed four less errors (14-to-18) in 10 more swings (97-to-87) than the host team.
The Rebels were led offensively by Erin Greenwood, who took home all-tournament honors for the second straight week after being named to the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational last weekend. Greenwood racked up 10 kills, while hitting at an impressive .600. She tallied only one error in 15 attempts.
Kela Lau Hee notched double-digits in digs with 11.
LMU's Alaina Bergsma led her team in kills with 13 en route to joining Greenwood on the all-tournament team. Bergsma hit .444 with one error in 27 swings.
Alesha Young contributed 29 of the Lions' 38 assists for the match high. Ariana Covington and Lauren DeGrandmont led LMU in digs with 10 apiece.
UNLV returns to action Thursday night (Sept. 10) with a contest against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 7:00 pm in the first day of the Alexis Park Invitational.
