SPOKANE, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (3-3) won their final match of the Gonzaga Invitational by a 3-0 score (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) over the Seattle Redhawks (2-6) on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels got a double-double from Ceannia Kincade, who combined match-highs in kills (12) and digs (10) for the feat, to help snap a three-match losing skid at GU's Martin Centre in Spokane, Wash.

UNLV outhit Seattle by 111 points (.213 to .102) and had seven more kills (39-32) and three fewer errors (19-22) off four less swings (94-98). The Rebels best hitting effort came in the first stanza, a .250 output, which was followed by a .222 and .171 in subsequent sets. The Redhawks, on the other hand, topped out with a .161 clip in the second frame sandwiched by two sub-.100 efforts.

Kincade's double-double was the first of her young career, while her 12 kills were a career-best. She also had one assisted block in the victory.

"I liked the way the Rebels came out tonight," said UNLV head coach Cindy Fredrick. "We really did a much better job of taking care of the ball. Ceannia had a great match offensively and defensively. Tonight was a good effort by everyone on the court."

Stephanie Thelen dished out a match-high 34 assists to accompany three digs, three assisted blocks, one kill and one ace.

Daryn Glenn fell one kill and two digs shy of notching a double-double with nine kills and eight digs in the contest. Glenn also had three total blocks (one solo).

Sekola Falemaka, who had seven kills and seven digs in the win, was six individuals named to the all-tournament team.

Seattle was paced by a 25-kill effort from Kerry Lane, while three different attackers amassed six kills apiece. Danielle McKenzie led all Redhawk defenders with six digs.

 

 

The Rebels stay out on the road for a second straight weekend with a trip to the Bluegrass State next Sept. 13-14. UNLV will play three matches in Bowling Green, Ky., at the Western Kentucky Invitational. The Scarlet & Gray's first outing will come against Ohio at 4:30 pm CT (2:30 pm PT).
