Waves Crash Rebels

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (3-5) suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Pepperdine Waves (5-4) Saturday afternoon in the UNLV Invitational held at the Cox Pavilion. UNLV lost the match by set scores of 19-25, 18-25, 14-25.
Pepperdine out-hit UNLV by a .411 to .158 margin and tallied 23 more kills offensively (49-to-26) to aid its victory. The Rebels only committed two more errors (14-to-12) than their foes, but also swung 14 less times (76-to-90). The Waves hit no worse than .294 (first set) in the match and topped out at .485 (second). UNLV, on the other hand, hit between .042 (third) and .364 (second).
UNLV was paced offensively by eight kills from Sara Nehf, who also added five digs.
Candice Thomas owned the best hitting efficiency for the Rebels with her .444 effort off of six kills.
Defensively, Kela Lau Hee was one of four players to tally at least four digs with her team-high six.
Pepperdine was led offensively by a match-high 12 kills from Kim Hill, who was closely followed Lilla Frederick and her 10 kills.
Kellie Woolever led all players with a match-high 36 assists.
Three different Wave players had eight digs apiece with Frederick, Hill and Stevi Robinson vying for the top spot.
UNLV is back in action at 7:00 pm Saturday night when they host the Cal State Fullerton in the finale of the tournament.
In Saturday's earlier match, Cal State Fullerton knocked off Eastern Kentucky by a 3-0 margin.
