Rebels Lose Clash With Titans

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (3-6) lost a 3-0 decision (20-25, 16-25, 17-25) to the Cal State Fullerton Titans (6-3) Saturday evening in the finale of the UNLV Invitational held in the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels' Sara Nehf was named to her second consecutive all-tournament team with tonight's announcement.
The Rebels were out-hit by a .162 to .368 margin and amassed 10 less kills (34-to-44) than the Titans. UNLV hit between .037 (second set) and .273 (first) in the loss, while Fullerton never fell below the .306 (first) mark. They had two sets in the .400 range with a .400 effort in the second prior to a match-high .412 in the third and decisive set.
UNLV was paced offensively by 12 kills from Nehf. She also contributed three digs and one ace.
Candice Thomas had a career- and season-high nine kills on the night and topped out at a team-best .412 hitting efficiency.
Amanda Alles and Kenra Glendenning split the setting duties for UNLV and recorded 18 and 14 kills, respectively. Alles chipped in three digs to Glendenning's four.
Kela Lau Hee led UNLV in the dig department with 11 stops.
The Titans had a trio of attackers notch double-digit figures with Ayana Whitaker leading the way with 13. Whitaker was closely followed by 11 from Leah Maurer and 10 more from Kayla Neto, who accompanied Nehf on the all-tournament squad.
Fullerton got a match-high 40 assists from Andrea Ragan, while Cami Croteau, the tournament's outstanding libero, lead the dig category with 12.
The Rebels return to action next weekend with its second consecutive home tournament, the UNLV Classic. UNLV welcomes San Jose State, Xavier and Cal State Northridge to the Cox Pavilion. UNLV opens up its slate of action against Northridge at 7:00 pm Friday night.
