Rebels Lose Fight With Spartans|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (3-8) suffered a 3-1 setback against the San Jose State Spartans (5-7) Saturday afternoon in their own UNLV Classic held in the Cox Pavilion. San Jose State won by set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 16-25, 25-21.
The Rebels were out-hit .242 to .280 in the match and collected seven less kills (52-to-59) than their opponent. The Spartans committed one more error (22-to-21) on four more swings (132-to-128). UNLV hit between .147 (second set) and .400 (third). SJSU, on the other hand, stayed within the .143 (third) and .438 (first) range.
UNLV was led offensively by Kelsey Keeler, who notched her second career double-double, in the loss. Keeler tied for the team lead in digs with 15 and added 15 kills. She also pitched in five assisted blocks and two assists.
Candice Thomas threw down a team-high 14 kills for UNLV on .440 hitting. Thomas also contributed five assisted blocks and two digs.
Sara Nehf chipped in 12 kills to join Thomas and Keeler in double figures. Nehf also had five assisted blocks, two digs and one assist.
Amanda Alles and Kendra Glendenning split the setting duties for the Rebels and dished out 28 and 15 assists, respectively. Alles added three kills and two assisted blocks, while Glendenning had six digs.
The Spartans were led by a match-high 17 kills from Hanah Blume and 12 more from Brianna Amian. Blume fell one dig shy of a double-double with nine defensive stops. Caitlin Andrade assisted on a match-high 50 kills for San Jose State. Katie Turner rounded out the team leaders for sJSU with 13 digs.
UNLV returns to action with a 7:00 pm tilt with Xavier in the finale of the Invitational.
Earlier today, Cal State Northridge knocked off Xavier by a 3-1 final score.
