Volleyball Drops Opening Match Of Fresno Tournament

FRESNO, Calif - The UNLV volleyball team dropped the first game of the Fresno State Quadrangular to Sacramento State 3-2 (26-30, 30-28, 30-23, 20-30, 11-15) Friday evening at Fresno State's North Gym. The Rebels were out-hit by the Hornets .234 (73-28-192) to .160 (64-33-194).

Sacramento State improved its record to 9-3, while UNLV dropped to 4-7 with the loss.

UNLV was paced by Patricia Assuncao, who finished with 17 kills, 10 digs and six block assists. Leiana Oswald added 16 kills and 15 digs, while Tarin Keith finished with 13 kills and 15 digs

Nicki King had 53 assists to go along with 14 digs and four blocks, two solo and two assisted.

Sheila Ocasio-Clemente blocked a season-high nine attacks in the match, three solo and six assisted. She also contributed seven kills and two digs.

Shannon Chase, playing libero, led the team with 16 digs.

Sacramento State's Lisa Beauchene posted her second triple double of the season, falling just short of a quadruple-double. She finished 10 kills, 50 assists, 15 digs and seven blocks.

Tomorrow's tournament schedule features UNLV playing Fresno State at 2 p.m. and San Diego at 5 p.m.
