Volleyball Struggles at Fresno Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - The UNLV volleyball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Fresno State Quadrangular in Saturday night. The Rebels opened the day with a 3-1 (30-27, 24-30, 9-30, 24-30) loss to tournament host Fresno State and followed it with a 3-0(18-30, 26-30, 24-30) loss to the University of San Diego. The losses drop UNLV to 4-9 on the season.

UNLV opened against Fresno State with a 30-27 game-one victory, but gave up the next three, managing only a .090 (47-33-156) attack percentage for the match.

Tarin Keith, Leiana Oswald and Sheila Ocasio-Clemente finished with 11 kills each. Ocasio-Clemente hit .476 in the match, while also contributing six blocks. Oswald added 10 digs and three blocks.

Shannon Chase tallied 18 digs at the Libero spot.

UNLV played a much better match against San Diego, but succumbed to the Torero's attack in three. The Rebels hit .233 (36-12-103) in a match that included a .500 (6-0-12) attack percentage from freshman Sarah Faschner. She also added two digs and a pair of blocks.

Patricia Assuncao led all Rebels with a double-double 11 kill and 11 digs.

Nicki Kings finished with 30 assists and seven digs, while Blair Wilkes posted five kills and four block assists.

Leiana Oswald contributed seven kills and seven digs, while Shannon Chase added five digs.

UNLV returns home to the Cox Pavilion on Monday for a 7 p.m. exhibition match against Czechoslovakia's Olymp Praha.
