Rebels Bite Off Another Win Over The Wolf Pack

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - In front of a boisterous crowd of 579 clad in blue, the UNLV Rebels (7-6) worked quickly in their 3-0 sweep of the Nevada Wolf Pack (2-9) Wednesday night at the Virginia Street Gym in Reno, Nev. The win was the sixth straight for UNLV in the head-to-head series and 13th overall in 20 tries.
The Rebels out-hit the Wolf Pack .253 to .073. Overall, UNLV had one less kill (33-34) and 17 fewer errors (10-27), while attempting only 91 attacks to UNR's 96 tries. The Rebels hit .320 or better in the first two sets of the match and .154 in the third. The Wolf Pack, on the other hand, hit .139 or worse in all three frames.
In all, UNLV had six players notch at least two kills and was led by eight kills apiece from Candice Thomas and Sekola Falemaka. Thomas tied for the match-high in hitting efficiency with a .500 effort and also contributed five blocks (two solo). Falemaka hit .280 and contributed four digs and one ace.
Madeline Westman, who had four kills on .364 hitting, had as many blocks individually as UNR had as a team. Westman stuffed seven Wolf Pack attacks with one going in the books with one solo and six assisted putbacks. She also had one assist, one ace and one dig.
Daryn Glenn threw down six kills, dished out two assists and defensively had four digs and four assisted blocks.
Stephanie Thelen had a team-high 24 assists and chipped in four assisted blocks and two kills.
Taylor Ricahrd led the team in digs with nine and also added five kills and one assist.
UNR was led by a double-double from Tatiana Santiago, who combined 27 assists and 13 digs for the feat. Janelle Batista had a match-high 10 kills for the Wolf Pack.
UNLV returns to action Friday evening at 7:00 pm, when they host San Diego State in the Mountain West opener for both squads.
