ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (5-11, 1-2 MWC) suffered a 3-0 loss to the New Mexico Lobos (10-6, 2-1 MWC) in Mountain West Conference action Saturday afternoon from the Johnson Center in Albuquerque. The Lobos took the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-21.

New Mexico's offense played evenly throughout the match with its attackers hitting between .241 and .273 in each of the three sets en route to amassing a .263 hitting efficiency. The Rebels, on the other hand, could only muster a .057 hitting figure with their highest effort being a .162 in the third.

The match featured 15 ties and six lead changes with the majority of both occurring in the third. In all, there were 12 ties and six lead changes in the final stanza.

UNLV's offense got 26 of its 33 kills from the trio of Sara Nehf, Madeline Westman and Makenzie Moea'i. Nehf led the Rebels in the department with 10, while Westman followed closely behind with nine. Moea'i threw down seven of her own and added nine digs, as well.

Stephanie Thelen, Amanda Alles and Kendra Glendenning split the setting duties for UNLV. Thelen dished out a career- and season-high 18 assists, while Alles and Glendenning had nine and three each, respectively.

Defensively, Kela Lau Hee paced the Rebels with 13 digs.

Ashley Rhoades led the Lobos in kills with 10 and hit a staggering .429 in the match. Rhoades wasn't the only Lobo to rack up an impressive hitting figure, as Jade Michaelsen hit a match-high .556 with five kills. Michaelsen also added 30 assists and five digs. Allison Buck led the team in digs with nine and was one of five Lobos with five or more on the day.

 

 

UNLV returns to Las Vegas for a pair of conference matches next week with the Wyoming Cowgirls and #18 Colorado State Rams making visits to the Cox Pavilion. Wyoming will play first with a Thursday night showdown with UNLV. The match is slated for a 6:30 pm first serve and will also be televised by The Mtn. (The MountainWest Sports Network), which can be found on DirecTV Ch. 616 and Cox Digital Cable Ch. 334.
