Rebels Roughed Up By #17 Rams

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (6-12, 2-3 MWC) were swept by the #17 Colorado State Rams by a 3-0 margin Saturday afternoon in Mountain West Conference volleyball action from the Cox Pavilion. CSU won the match by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-23.
The Rams out-hit the Rebels by a .206 to .058 margin and also tallied eight more kills (29-to-31), eight less errors (17-to-25) and took four more swings (107-to-103) in the match. CSU's highest hitting effort came in its first-set win with a .333 tally. They only hit .059 and .233 in the subsequent sets. UNLV, on the other hand, did not hit any better than .143 in any set with that figure occurring in the third frame.
Sara Nehf fell one kill shy of amassing her second double-double of the season, as she led the Rebels in kills with nine and also had a team-high 10 digs.
Amanda Alles led the Rebels in assists with 13 and also contributed four digs, two kills and one solo block.
CSU got a double-double from Dana Cranston, who combined her 10 kills with 10 digs for the achievement. Megan Plourde tied Cranston for the team-lead in kills with 10 of her own. Plourde added six blocks to her stat line, as well, with two solos and four of the assisted variety.
Evan Sanders dished out a match-high 30 assists for CSU and also added six digs and three kills.
UNLV is back in action next week with two matches in the Beehive State. The Rebels will open up the trip in Salt Lake City against Utah on Thursday evening at prior to a BYU-TV televised match on Saturday night in Provo against BYU. Both matches are set for 6:00 pm MT (7:00 pm PT) first serves.
