Volleyball Wins

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team snapped a 10-match losing streak with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-28, 30-25) victory over New Mexico on Friday night at the Cox Pavilion. With the win, the Rebels improve to 5-15 on the season, 1-6 in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos fall to 6-13, 1-5 in league play.

Patricia Assuncao led the Rebels with 16 kills. She also finished with six digs, one block and two service aces.

Christina Kirschner tallied eight kills and led the team with six blocks, one solo and five assisted. She hit .727 (8-0-11) in the match.

Sarah Faschner and Blair Wilkes each finished with seven kills. Faschner blocked three balls, while Wilkes knocked down two.

Nicki King posted three kills with 41 assists and 11 digs. Nina Franchini, playing libero, finished with nine digs. Tera Mayes added four digs and a pair of assists.

New Mexico was led by Anna Reines, who finished with 16 kills and five blocks.

UNLV returns to action on Saturday night against Air Force. The match is set for a 5 p.m. start to accommodate the Lakers vs. Suns NBA exhibition game at 7:30 p.m.
