Rebels Suffer 3-1 Loss To Aztecs|

SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (10-11 overall, 3-5 Mountain West) lost a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20) decision to the San Diego State Aztecs (13-6, 6-2) Friday night at Aztec Court inside Peterson Gym. UNLV struck out to a 1-0 lead after the first set, but was not able to maintain its momentum, as SDSU took the following three frames in a match televised by The Mtn.
UNLV was out-hit .273 to .132 in the match and did not muster a hitting efficiency better than .206 (first set) in any set. The attackers threw down 47 kills and committed 28 errors on 144 swings. SDSU, on the other hand, hit .190 (first set) or better throughout the contest. The Aztecs had three frames where they hit above .289, including a match-best .333 in the second.
The contest featured 27 ties and 10 lead changes. There were only two ties and two lead changes between the first two sets, one of each per stanza, before intermission. The third frame witnessed 18 ties and five lead changes, while the fourth and final set had seven and three, respectively.
The Rebels had three hitters amass double figures in kills. Sekola Falemaka led the squad with 14, while Makenzie Moea'i and Madeline Westman had 12 and 11, respectively. Falemaka fell one dig shy of a double-double with nine. She also had three assisted blocks and an ace. Moea'i had three digs and three assisted blocks. Westman added five blocks (two solo).
Stephanie Thelen led the team in assists with 39 and had five blocks, as well.
Allison Davies led all defenders with a match-high 26 digs and chipped in two assists.
SDSU was led by a double-double from Johnna Fouch, who combined 53 assists with 18 digs to achieve the feat. Fouch also added two assisted blocks and one kill to her team-high tallies.
Raegan Shelton led a trio of Aztecs in kills with her 21 on .378 hitting, while adding four blocks (one solo) and two digs.
Andrea Hannasch and Chaiymin Steel joined Shelton in kill double digits with 14 and 10, respectively. Hannasch hit a match-best .385 with five assisted blocks and three digs. Steel, who hit .318, also had four assisted blocks and three digs.
UNLV returns to action Saturday at 5:00 pm in Bakersfield, Calif., against the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners.
