LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (6-15, 2-6 MWC) lost a 3-0 decision to the San Diego State Aztecs (10-11, 4-4 MWC) in Mountain West Conference volleyball action from the Cox Pavilion Saturday afternoon. SDSU won the match by set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-21.

UNLV was out-hit by SDSU by a .279 to .376 margin. The Rebels tallied six less kills (43-to-49) and one more error (12-to-11) on 10 more swings (111-to-101). The home squad hit .256 or better in all three of the sets and topped out at .303 in the third and final frame. SDSU, on the other hand, hit no worse than .318 and had identical match-high efforts of .419 in the second and third stanzas.

The match featured 18 ties and eight lead changes with none occurring in the second set. The first set witnessed six ties and three lead changes, while the third had 12 and five, respectively.

Sara Nehf led the UNLV contingent of attackers with nine kills, while hitting .240. Nehf also chipped in with three digs and one assisted block. She was joined offensively by eight kills each from Kelsey Keeler and Madeline Westman, who hit a team-best .500 with only one error in 14 attempts.

Kendra Glendenning and Stephanie Thelen were the primary setters for UNLV in the match, as they dished out 21 and 12 assists, respectively. Glendenning added four digs, as well.

The Rebels got nine digs apiece from Nile Te'o and Kelsey Keeler, while Kela Lau Hee followed with eight of her own.

The Aztecs had three players tally double figures in kills with Andrea Hannasch pacing the visitors with 14. Kyley Sexton was one kill off of Hannasch's output with 13, while Summer Nash added 12. Hannasch owned a match-high .542 hitting effort with one error on 24 attempts.

 

 

Johnna Fouch amassed a match-best 39 assists and also chipped in seven digs and two kills.

Kristi Jackels led all defenders in the match with 13 digs.

UNLV is back in action tomorrow afternoon with a Sunday matinee against the UMKC Kangaroos at 1:00 pm in the Cox Pavilion. The match will be the last non-conference affair for the Rebels this season.
