Horned Frogs Hop Past Rebels

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV Rebels suffered their fourth consecutive loss in Mountain West action after Thursday night's 3-0 setback to the TCU Horned Frogs at the Cox Pavilion. UNLV dropped to 11-14 overall and 3-8 in league play, while TCU improved to 21-4 and 8-3, respectively. The Horned Frogs won the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-23.

The loss snapped UNLV's two-match winning streak over TCU and gives each team a victory over the other this season. The Rebels lead the all-time series 11-5.

TCU out-hit UNLV .244 to .176, threw down eight more kills (47-39) and attempted six more swings (131-125), while tallying two fewer errors (15-17). The Horned Frogs hit .163 (third set) or better throughout the match and topped out at .304 in the second frame. UNLV, on the other hand, had its best hitting effort in the third (.213), but never broke the .175 barrier (second) in the other two stanzas.

UNLV had three players register 27 of its 39 kills with Candice Thomas, Madeline Westman and Makenzie Moea'i throwing down nine apiece. Thomas led the Rebels in hitting with her .350 effort and added three solo blocks. Westman hit .286 and notched three digs and three blocks (one solo). Moea'i hit .250 with two digs.

Stephanie Thelen dished out a team-high 35 assists, while pitching in four digs, two kills and an assisted block.

On the defensive side of the net, the Rebels had a quartet notch 10 or more digs. Allison Davies led the foursome with 18 digs (one assist). Daryn Glenn was next with 12 (five kills, one assist). Layne Wilson (one assist) and Taylor Richard (four kills, one assist, one assisted block) had 10 each.



TCU got a double-double from Megan Munce, who combined 37 assists with 11 digs to achieve the feat. Munce also added an ace.

Kristen Hester and Sloane Sunstrum racked up double-digits in kills for the Horned Frogs with 14 and 10, respectively. Hester hit .444 with one ace and one dig. Sunstrum had seven digs and two aces, as well.

Sarah Joeckel led a trio of players with 10 or more digs for TCU with 22 of her own.

UNLV returns to action for its final home match of the regular season Saturday at 1:00 pm against the New Mexico Lobos. The day is Senior Day and will see the Rebels recognize Amanda Alles, who will be playing in her final contest at home.
