LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (16-8 overall, 8-3 Mountain West) won its eighth straight contest over the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack (4-21, 1-11 MW) with its 3-0 sweep on Saturday night in the Cox Pavilion. The win by set scores of 25-8, 25-20, 25-18, secures three points for UNLV in the Governor's Series' standings - the Scarlet & Gray won this season's earlier meeting in Reno by a 3-2 score.

UNLV out-hit UNR .244 to .065, and it registered six more kills (35-29) off 17 less swings (90-107), while committing nine fewer errors (13-22). The Rebels opened up the match with a staggering .500 efficiency in the first set before hitting .148 and .171 in the subsequent frames. The Wolf Pack, on the other hand, began the match with a paltry -.111 hitting clip prior to a .135 and .116 in the second and third sets, respectively.

"I thought our serving and defense were excellent tonight," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Katlin (Winters) had a strong hitting night, and overall we played a balance match."

The Rebels' offensive was paced by nine-kill efforts from both Katlin Winters and Madeline Westman. Winters had match-highs in hitting efficiency (.471) and blocks (six), while also notching two assists and one dig. Westman hit .353 and contributed three digs, two blocks, two aces and one assist.

Kinsey Caldwell, who had six digs and three kills for UNLV, led the team in assists with 22.

Defensively, Daryn Glenn and Allison Davies notched double-digit assist totals with 14 and 12, respectively. Glenn's figure was good enough to be the most by an individual in the match.

UNR was led by 11 kills from Tessa Lea'ea - the only player to reach double figures on the night. Lea'ea also had three blocks (two solo). Taylor Rothfuss dished out a match-best 24 assists to go along with five digs and two blocks. Kara Kasser led the Wolf Pack in digs with 13.

UNLV returns to action next week with road contests on the front range of the Rocky Mountains. The Rebels will visit Colorado State in Fort Collins on Thursday night (7:00 pm MT/6:00 pm PT). Two days later, they will square off against Wyoming in Laramie on Saturday (6:00 pm MT/5:00 pm PT).
