LARAMIE, Wyo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (8-18, 3-9 MWC) lost a four-set match by a 3-1 margin to the Wyoming Cowgirls (21-6, 6-5 MWC) Saturday afternoon in Mountain West Conference volleyball action from the UniWyo Sports Complex in Laramie, Wyo. The Cowgirls won the match by set scores of 19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18.

Wyoming out-hit UNLV by a .244 to .131 margin and threw down 15 more kills (60-to-45) and had five less kills (21-to-26). The Cowgirls attempted 15 more attempts (160-to-145), as well. The home squad came out of the gate slow with a .125 hitting efficiency, but turned things around from the second set on and never hit below the .261 mark the remaining three sets. The Rebels, on the other hand, began well with their .275 effort in the first before hitting .135 or less the rest of the way.

Sara Nehf led the Rebels on the offensive side of the ball with a match-high 19 kills. Nehf fell one dig shy of notching a double-double, as she registered nine in the match. She also had three blocks (one solo) and one ace.

Kendra Glendenning notched her fourth double-double of the season with a combination of 14 assists and 10 digs.

Stephanie Thelen teamed up with Glendenning assisting the Rebel attackers and dished out a career- and season-high 19 helpers. Thelen also added three digs, two assisted blocks and one kill.

Kela Lau Hee and Nile Te'o were instrumental on the defensive end of the court, as they amassed 18 and 17 digs, respectively.

Jodi Purdy and Lauren Whitney tallied double-doubles for Wyoming in victory. Purdy used a combination of 19 kills and 12 digs to achieve the feat and also added five assisted blocks and two assists. Whitney managed 17 kills and 12 digs for the honor.

 

 

Barbara Lasic owned a match-high 44 assists and had nine digs, as well.

UNLV is back in action Thursday evening (7:00 pm) with a home match against the BYU Cougars in the Cox Pavilion.

Notes: Kela Lau Hee moved up in the UNLV career record book today with her performance ... Lau Hee ranks sixth overall in digs with 813.
