Rebels Clip Falcons' Feathers In Win

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team (17-9 overall, 8-6 Mountain West Conference) swept the Air Force Falcons (3-21, 0-13) on Friday evening in the Cox Pavilion. With the 3-0 victory, the Rebels have now won 11 matches in quick fashion and are now one sweep away from tying the school record of 12 set in 1998. UNLV won the match with game-scores of 30-22, 30-14, 30-17.
The Rebel offense was at a premium against the Falcons, as the squad hit for a season-high hitting percentage of .402, while amassing a season-low 12 hitting errors. All in all, the Rebels hit as high as .438 (game one) and as low as .351 (game three), while mixing in game two's .424.
UNLV out hit Air Force 53-to-30 in the kill department. The Falcons hit their highest tally of the night at .375 in the first game, but the match-average settled at .115 with a -.027 in the second and a .029 in the third.
Maria Aladjova paced the Rebel offense with her 12th double-double of the season, as she racked up 19 kills and 10 digs. The double-digit kill tally marks the 22nd occasion that she has hit more than 10 kills in a match. She aided in the team's highest hitting percentage with her match-high .680 from the outside. In 25 attempts, she hit only two errors.
Lauren Miramontes and Erin Greenwood nailed down double-digit kill figures, as well. Miramontes had 13 to Greenwood's 10. Besides trailing Aladjova in kills, Miramontes was close behind in hitting with her .611 percentage (13-2-18).
Air Force was led offensively by Katie Batchelder's eight kills. Kim Kallabis tied Nua for the match-high in assists with 24 and also led her team in digs with eight.
Next up for UNLV is its final regular season home match of 2006. The Rebels welcome the Colorado State Rams to Las Vegas for a Sunday matinee in the Cox Pavilion. The match will get underway at 3:00 p.m. The match will honor UNLV's two seniors, Kristin Koochi and Michelle Banks, as they will be playing in their final regular season home match as a Rebel.
