Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV volleyball’s Mariena Hayden had 10 kills and seven digs in 3-0 loss to New Mexico. The UNLV volleyball team was swept, 3-0, by the New Mexico Lobos Monday in Mountain West action at the Johnson Center. The Lobos (16-15, 7-10 MW) defeated the Rebels (8-21, 4-12 MW) behind set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.

UNM outhit UNLV by 163 points (.173 to .010) with help from 12 more kills (39-27) and fewer errors (21-26) in only three more attack attempts (104-101). The Lobos’ best hitting display occurred in the second set, as they posted a .300 effort; however, the team hit .128 and .114 in the first and third, respectively. The Rebels’ hitting was hampered by errors, which resulted in .088 or lower averages through the affair.

On the flip side, the Rebels dominated the net with an advantage in total team blocks, 10-0 to 8.0.

STAT OF THE GAME: Despite committing three more errors in the first set (9-6), UNM still managed to throw down 10 more kills (14-4). In sets two and three, the Rebels had 23 total kills, but had 20 errors in 74 swings, while the Lobos had 25 and 12, respectively, in 65 attack attempts.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Mariena Hayden had a team-high 10 kills to go along with seven digs, one ace and one assisted block.

QUOTABLE: “We passed well again tonight, but we are not generating any offense,” said head coach Cindy Fredrick. “Our serving and blocking was good and Shania (Scott) did a good job playing libero since Leka’s (Kiner-Falefa) injury.”

REBEL NOTES:
*With help from her 10 kills, Hayden has notched 10 or more kills in 11 of UNLV’s last 14 matches.
*With help from one ace – her 37th of the season, Hayden moved into a seventh-place tie with Rebel alumna Sheila Hicks, who had 37 in 1984.
*With help from her three total blocks, Ashley Owens moved into sixth place in the program’s single-season chart for total blocks with 138. Owens, who already owns the third-most total blocks in a given year (161 in 2015), has 138 this season and needs four more to tie Lynette Richan (142 in 1984) for fifth.
*With help from one solo block, Elsa Descamps moved into ninth place in the program’s single-season chart for solo blocks with 24. Descamps trails Owens and Bree Hammel (25 in 2014) by one for seventh.
*With help from three digs, Leka Kiner-Falefa moved into a seventh-place tie with Allison Davies (2013) in the program’s single-season chart for digs with 473. Kiner-Falefa needs six more to tie Davies (2014) and Jada Walker (2005) for fifth with 479.
