Season Comes To Close With Loss To Bulldogs|

FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team closed out its 2017 season with a 3-0 loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs in Mountain West play Monday evening at the Save Mart Center. The Bulldogs (12-18, 7-11 MW) claimed the three-set contest behind set scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-8. With the loss, the Rebels conclude the year 8-23 overall and 4-14 in the MW.
FS outhit UNLV by 133 points (.216 to .083) backed by eight more kills (42-34) and eight fewer errors (15-23) in seven fewer attack attempts (125-132). The Bulldogs’ hitting efficiency improved in each subsequent, beginning with a .140 in the first before it was upped to .240 and then .281 in the second and third, respectively. The Rebels, on the other hand, saw their hitting numbers decline frame by frame, with a .204 to .170 to -.194.
STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV and FS had kill-to-error differentials of plus-18 apiece through two sets of play, with the former hitting .188 to the latter’s .194. The third set was much different; however, as the Rebels hit -.194 with a minus-7 ratio compared to the Bulldog’s .281 efficiency and plus-9.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Elsa Descamps led the UNLV in hitting (.250) and total blocks (four: all assisted) and tied for the lead in kills (eight).
QUOTABLE: “This has been a tough season, but I do think our kids always played hard,” said head coach Cindy Fredrick. “We played a good first set, but lost momentum after that and just didn’t put the ball away. We will have a good deal of work to do this spring.”
