2014 UNLV Volleyball Schedule

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV volleyball program unveiled its 2014 schedule on Tuesday. The Rebels have 33 matches on the docket with 15 of those played at the Cox Pavilion and the remaining 18 taking place on the road. The squad opens up the season with its first 14 matches spread over four consecutive tournaments followed by one non-conference affair against Southern Utah and 18 straight versus Mountain West foes.

UNLV will play six matches against four teams - Cal State Northridge (twice), Washington (once), Central Arkansas (once) and Colorado State (twice) - that earned berths to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

"This is a very ambitious schedule for us, especially having graduated three seniors in key positions," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "We will use the difficulty of the preseason to help prepare us for a very strong conference, and give our young team a bit of a baptism by fire. This will be an excellent opportunity for our players to up their game."

The Scarlet & Gray kick off the 2014 slate with its own UNLV Invitational on Aug. 29-31. The four-team tournament that will welcome Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside and Western Kentucky to Las Vegas features three matches on the first two days (Friday and Saturday) and a single contest on Sunday.

Following the conclusion of the home tourney, the Rebels hit the road for nine straight matches covering three different time zones. The three-week trek begins with a jaunt across the country to Orange, N.J., for the Seton Hall Invitational - Cornell, Sienna and Seton Hall - on Sept. 5-6. UNLV will return to the western portion of the U.S., but in the Pacific Northwest for the co-hosted Invitational in Seattle by Washington and Seattle - Washington, Seattle and UC Davis - on Sept. 12-13. The trip will conclude with a stop in Conway, Ark., at the Central Arkansas Sugar Bear Invitational - Central Arkansas, New Orleans and Grambling - on Sept. 19-20.



UNLV returns home to play its final non-conference match of the regular season on Sept. 23 two days before opening up the MW season with a visit from Fresno State (Sept. 25).

The month of October will see the Rebels play six of nine matches away from the friendly confines of the Cox Pavilion. A trip to the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains opens up action against Colorado State (Oct. 2) and Wyoming (Oct. 4). Home matches against Air Force (Oct. 9) and New Mexico (Oct. 11) will precede four straight on the road: San José State (Oct. 16), Nevada, Reno (Oct. 18), San Diego State (Oct. 21) and Fresno State (Oct. 25).

Following those road contests, UNLV will have play six of its final nine matches at home beginning with return trips by Wyoming and Colorado State on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, respectively. The team will then head out for its final multiple-match weekend with outings at New Mexico (Nov. 6) and Air Force (Nov. 8). The team will then bookend a trip to Logan, Utah against Utah State (Nov. 19) with home bouts against UNR (Nov. 13) and San José State (Nov. 15) and two more vs. Boise State (Nov. 22) and San Diego State (Nov. 25).
