LAS VEGAS - UNLV opens up its 2007 season on Friday, August 24 in its own tournament, but before that first match the Rebels will face off with some familiar faces on Saturday, Aug. 18. The current Rebels will take on its alumni in a 3:00 pm contest in the Cox Pavilion.

A new feature that will be used for the upcoming volleyball season is the webcasting of all Rebel home matches through the All-Access link on the right side of UNLVRebels.com. The first home match will take place at 7:00 pm versus Arizona State on Aug. 24. The alumni game will be the first of the volleyball action being streamed via the internet.

The 2007 Rebels are looking to build upon their successful 2006 season. Ten players return from last year's 20-10 squad and will be joined by eight newcomers. Leading the way for this year's team are four seniors, three of which were Mountain West All-Conference honorees. Maria Aladjova, Lauren Miramontes and Jada Walker were recognized for their on-court achievements last season, while Brittani Lumsden rounds out the senior group. The team returns three juniors (Melody Nua, Camille Cunningham and Gerryn Moran) and three sophomores (Erin Greenwood, Samantha Noland and Jessica Walters).

The Rebels will play 26 matches in 2007, including eight matches against six opponents that reached the 2006 NCAA Tournament. UNLV kicks off the season with its own home tournament before heading to Los Angeles for a tournament at Loyola Marymount and to Reno for one hosted by Nevada, Reno. After those nine matches, the Rebels will have 17 remaining, with 16 in conference and one non-conference (Santa Clara).
