UNLV senior Allison Davies was selected to the 2014 Mountain West Preseason Team.
Aug. 19, 2014

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV volleyball team was predicted to finish the 2014 Mountain West season in seventh place according to the conference's preseason poll, while senior libero Allison Davies was tabbed to the All-MW Preseason Team.

The Rebels closed out the 2013 campaign with a 16-14 overall record and in a four-way tie for fourth place in league play.

The 2014 edition returns four starters to the court - three of which are seniors - from one year ago. Davies, a mainstay on the back row the past three seasons, will be joined by fellow seniors Daryn Glenn (outside hitter) and Katlin Winters (middle blocker) and sophomore Carly Riehl (defensive specialist). The quartet will be joined by seven holdovers from '13 and six newcomers - five freshmen and one junior college transfer.

The poll, which was voted on by a panel comprised of the 11 MW head volleyball coaches, was topped by five-time defending league champion Colorado State with 97 total points and seven first-place votes. New Mexico, who received the four remaining first-place votes, was selected to finish second with 91 points. Utah State was picked third with 81 points, while San Diego State was fourth with 73.

Fifth through seventh place were separated by only five points with Wyoming (55 points) leading the trio. Boise State (54) and UNLV (50) followed closely behind in sixth and seventh, respectively.

Fresno State (40), Air Force (31), San José State (21) and Nevada, Reno (12) rounded out eighth through 11th place in the poll.

Davies, who had played in 90 matches and ranks second all-time in digs (1,300) at UNLV, was one of seven student-athletes tabbed to the preseason team. New Mexico senior Chantale Riddle was named the 2014 MW Preseason Player of the Year and a member of the squad. CSU's Adrianna Culbert, Deedra Foss and Kelsey Snider as well as Utah State's Elle Brainard and Wyoming's Erin Kirby round out the list of honorees. Six of the seven individuals are returning selections from the 2013 All-MW Team.

UNLV will play its second tune-up - the Scarlet & Gray Scrimmage - for the 2014 campaign this Saturday, Aug. 30 at 6:00 pm in the Cox Pavilion practice gym.

The Rebels kick off the season on Aug. 29-31 with their own UNLV Invitational. Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside and Western Kentucky will visit Las Vegas for the three-day, seven-match tournament held at the Cox Pavilion.
