LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After nearly two weeks of playing amongst themselves, the 2010 edition of the Rebel volleyball team got to square off with some former athletes that wore the scarlet and gray previously in an Alumni Game held on Saturday. The current squad defeated the alumni by a 3-1 margin with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17.

A veteran and a newcomer led the Rebels in victory with senior Sara Nehf racking up a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs to freshman Sekola Falemaka's eight kills and four digs.

Senior Kelsey Keeler added eight kills and four digs from the rightside.

Freshman Madeline Westman added six kills off a .380 hitting efficiency.

Senior Kela Lau Hee held strong in the back court for the Rebels contributing 12 digs.

The Alumni squad was comprised of Angie Vetter, Maria Aladjova, Tarin Keith, Erin Greenwood, Patricia (Assuncao) Burrus, Jada (Walker) Jackson, Tera (Mayes) Carter, Nina Franchini, Camille Cunningham and Amy Lewis. Providing coaching assistance was Jeff Richard, Suken Shah, Leiana (Oswald) Smoot and Mariana Pencheva.

 

 

UNLV kicks off the 2010 season on the road (Aug. 27-28) in Long Beach, Calif., at the Long Beach State Baden Classic. The Rebels will square off with Saint Mary's at 11:00 am Friday morning before playing LBSU at 7:00 pm later that evening. The team returns for its third and final game of the Classic with a 1:30 pm showing against Rutgers on Saturday afternoon
