Rebels Welcome Beavers, Gauchos To Vegas

First Serve: The UNLV Rebels (1-4) stay put this weekend, as they host the Alexis Park Invitational (Sept. 10-12) in the Cox Pavilion. UNLV is in the midst of a seven-match home stand with matches four through five taking place on Thursday, Sept. 10, and Saturday, Sept. 12. The tournament will consist of just one match each day.
The Rebels welcome the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (4-1) and Oregon State Beavers (5-2) to Las Vegas for the three-day, round-robin event. UNLV will take on the Guachos Thursday evening at 7:00 pm to open up the tournament. UCSB and OSU will play Friday night at 6:00 pm. The Rebels and Beavers will close down the extravaganza with its contest on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm.

About Oregon State: The Beavers enter the weekend with a 5-2 record through the first two weekends of play. OSU began the year with a 2-1 mark, which included a 3-0 sweep of then-#24 Colorado State, at the Asics/Coors Classic played in Fort Collins, Colo. Last week, they went 3-1 with sweeps of Portland, Seattle and Cal State Fullerton. A 3-2 loss to Wisconsin fell in between the Seattle and Cal State Fullerton victories. Rachel Rourke is the top hitter for the Beavers, as she has amassed 102 kills in 25 sets for a 4.08 kills-per-set average. Camilla Ah-Hoy owns 257 of the team's 310 assists for a 10.28 aps. Betsy Devich is one of four Beavers with 64 or more digs, as she owns a team-best 73 (4.29 dps). At the net, the team has six players with 11 or more blocks with Kiersten Sambrailo's 33 (three solo, 30 assisted) leading the way.
About UC Santa Barbara: The Gauchos come to Las Vegas riding a 4-1 overall record, which includes two consecutive wins over then-#15 San Diego. With help from those victories, the Gauchos garnered votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 Poll and sit hypothetically at #32. The team went 2-1 its opening weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., before reeling off the upset victories last weekend. The Gauchos have three players with 21 or more kills hitting above the .341 mark. Rebecca Saraceno owns team highs in kills (84) and kills per set (4.00), while hitting .341. Dana Vargas holds the best hitting efficiency with a .581 with 21 kills, while also topping the assist category with 227 (10.81 aps). Chelsey Lowe leads the squad in digs with 71 (3.38).
Keeley On The Radio Waves: Rebel head coach Allison Keeley will be a special guest on the "Mike Sanford Radio Show" Wednesday night (Sept. 9). The program, which airs from 7-8 pm on ESPN 1100 AM, will take place inside Liquidity at the Luxor Hotel.
Fans are invited join the Sanford, McCann and Pritchard at the shows -- and those in attendance can win prizes, courtesy of the Luxor, Findlay Toyota and UNLV Athletics. On The Sidelines: The Rebels continue its second longest home stand in program history with a Sept. 18 contest against Colorado State at 7:00 pm. The match is the sixth of seven at home and will open up Mountain West Conference play for both squads.
UNLV will play an every-other-day schedule the following week (Sept. 20-26) with three matches, the first of which takes place at home and closes down the home stand on Tuesday, Sept. 22 against Wyoming (7:00 pm). The team will then hit the road for a 7:00 pm MT/6:00 pm PT affair with Air Force on Sept. 24 before a Sept. 26 (1:00 pm) tilt at San Diego State.
Greenwood Makes All-Tournament Team Again: Erin Greenwood took home all-tournament honors for the second straight week after her play in UNLV's Alexis Park Classic this past weekend. Greenwood, who hit .500 with 16 kills and nine blocks in the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational a week ago, threw down 22 kills and hit .422 in the Classic.
After a four-kill, .364 hitting performance against then-#9 UCLA, she upped her play to eight kills on .316 hitting vs. Idaho. In UNLV's final match, she topped out at 10 kills, while hitting .600.
