Rebels Welcome Cowgirls, Falcons to Las Vegas|

First Serve: The UNLV Rebels were on the road last week with its lone match taking place in Fort Collins, Colo., against Mountain West Conference foe Colorado State. The Rebels return to Las Vegas this week for two MWC tilts vs. Wyoming (Thursday, Oct. 4) and Air Force (Saturday, Oct. 6). Both matches are slated for first serves at 7:00 pm.
Week Five Opponents:
Wyoming Cowgirls: 6-7 overall, 1-4 MWC
~ Predicted MWC Finish - 7th.
~ UNLV leads the all-time series 13-11, and won 11 of 17 in MWC play.
~ The Cowgirls are led by Rachel Smith's 232 kills (4.38 kpg), Tasha Weishahn's 572 assists (12.43 apg), Carissa Lee's 205 digs (3.87 dpg) and Lauren Scott's 41 blocks (0.98 bpg).
Air Force Falcons: 7-11 overall, 0-5 MWC (Play at SDSU on Oct. 4)
~ Predicted MWC Finish - 9th.
~ UNLV leads the all-time series 20-2, and won 15 of 16 in MWC play.
~ The Falcons are led by Katie Batchelder's 162 kills (2.95 kpg) and 137 digs (2.49 dpg), Kim Kallabis' 412 assists (7.10 apg)and Nichole Stilwell's 45 blocks (0.78 bpg).
Rebels In The Poll: The Rebels dropped two spots from 31st to 33rd in the "receiving votes" category of the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Poll. Currently, UNLV sits behind Middle Tennessee, Sacramento State, Oklahoma, Missouri State, Long Beach State, Pepperdine and Louisville.
The Sept. 10 poll was the first time in the program's history that UNLV ranked so highly. The Rebels came in 26th and only sat 23 points behind then-#25 New Mexico State.
Colorado State, last week's opponent, has made a steady climb up the ladder and broke into this week's Top 25 with a #25 ranking. Since they appeared in Sept. 30th's poll at #30, the Rams have gone from 31st (Sept. 10) to 29th (Sept. 17) to 27th (Sept. 24) to currently, #25 (Oct. 1).
Rebels' RKPI Ranks 20th: In the latest Nitty Gritty Report produced by RichKern.com, the Rebels own the 20th-best RKPI in the country. The Rebels dropped from 15th to 20th with its loss to Colorado State this past weekend.
Overall, UNLV is one of only four teams in the Top 20 to have only played competition ranked 1-125, as there are over 321 schools playing NCAA Division I volleyball. UNLV joins three Big 12 schools (Nebraska #2, Texas #7 and Oklahoma #18) in holding this distinction. Unfortunately, UNLV will drop from being one of the four after this weekend's play, as Wyoming is #149 and Air Force is #253.
Nationally Speaking - Team: The UNLV volleyball team ranks nationally in per-game statistics in assists, digs and kills, as well as being tied for the 33rd-best winning percentage (79%). The statistics are compiled through Sept. 23.
~ Assists: UNLV ranks 12th with an average of 15.33 apg. Nebraska leads with a 16.78 apg. ~ Digs: UNLV ranks 5th with an average of 19.94 dpg. Chattanooga leads with a 22.41 dpg. ~ Kills: UNLV ranks 18th with an average of 16.55 kpg. Nebraska leads with a 18.08 kpg.
Nationally Speaking - Individual: The UNLV volleyball team has three players rank nationally in individual per-game statistics in assists, digs and kills. The statistics are compiled through Sept. 23.
~ Assists: Melody Nua ranks 13th with an average of 13.06 apg. ~ Digs: Jada Walker ranks 13th with an average of 5.96 dpg. ~ Kills: Maria Aladjova ranks 46th with an average of 4.53 kpg.
