Rebels Receiving Votes|
Oct. 20, 2008
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebel volleyball team (13-8 overall) has reeled off 11 wins in its last 14 matches to earn a spot in the "receiving votes" category of Monday's AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Rebels, who are tied with BYU at #38, are one of four Mountain West Conference teams to make an appearance in today's poll.
The Rebels are no strangers to the Top 25 Poll, as the squad spent 13 weeks in 2007 either ranked or receiving votes. The program had never been ranked until last year (Nov. 5). The team maintained its #25 rating for two weeks until spending the rest of the season receiving votes.
UNLV began the year with a 2-5 record, but has since only lost three times, while stringing together three winning streaks of three matches. Currently, the team is riding a three-match winning streak, which includes a victory over then-#13 Colorado State last Thursday night (Oct. 16).
The team just concluded the first half of conference play and sit in a two-way tie for second place with the Utah Utes with identical 6-2 records. The Utes, who are 28th in the poll, and Rebels trail the CSU Rams by one match.
The Rebels will hit the road this week with matches in New Mexico and Texas. UNLV will serve it up with the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque on Thursday, Oct. 23 (6:00 pm PT) and then follow that match with one in Fort Worth against TCU on Saturday, Oct. 25 (11:00 am PT).
