Dec. 3, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV volleyball's Sekola Falemaka was tabbed to the 2013 Mountain West All-Conference Team, which was selected by the league's 11 head coaches and announced on Tuesday. The Rebel senior was one of 17 student-athletes to garner recognition following the completion of the MW's regular season.
Falemaka, a senior from Grantsville, Utah, led all players with 11 double-doubles during conference play. She finished third in both kills (281) and points (311.0); and fourth in kills per set (3.56) and points per set (3.94). Defensively, she was eighth in digs (249) and ninth in digs per set (3.15). She registered the third-most kills in MW action with a career-best 23 vs. Boise State on Nov. 23.
"Sekola worked hard for this honor," said Rebel head coach Cindy Fredrick. "She overcame a lot of injuries to keep playing, and finished first in the conference in double-doubles, which speaks volumes. We're very proud of Sekola!"
For the year, she led the Rebels in double-doubles (16), kills (390) and aces (28). Besides sitting atop those categories, she was second in digs (295) and also contributed 41 total blocks (seven solo) and 31 assists. She notched career highs in digs with 25 vs. Wyoming (Oct. 19) and in blocks with six at Fresno State (Nov. 7).
She closed out her career ranked in three categories of UNLV's record book: fifth in total attempts (2,751) and digs (946) and sixth in kills (927).
Colorado State, who claimed its fifth consecutive regular-season title, took home Player of the Year and Coach of the Year honors with the selections of Samantha Peters and Tom Hilbert to those respective awards.
New Mexico Julia Warren was tabbed the Freshman of the Year, while Fresno State's Holly Franks was selected as the Newcomer of the Year.
