SPARKS, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team opened up its 2013 season under the stars in Sparks, Nev., at Shadow Mountain Park at the Nature's Bakery Nevada Twilight Classic. UNLV finished third overall behind the host Wolf Pack of UNR and the Pacific Tigers in the college/open 4K.
The Rebels were paced by Auzsane Crowe-Carter, who finished sixth overall with a time of 15:54, which was a personal-best at that distance.
"We had some bright spots tonight," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "We have to continue to learn more about each other and progress in the direction that we want to go. The foundation of a house takes a while to build and that's what we are doing. It's a process with a lot of promise."
Seven others members of the program finished between 14th and 24th in the race. Amanda Berg was the second-highest Rebel with a 14th-place finish in 16:29. Arielle Steimer-Barragan was 16th (16:44) followed by Ryanne Bailey (17th, 16:44), Sara Williams (19th, 16:46), Heather Hernandez-Shaw (20th, 16:46), Katie Cochran (22nd, 17:46) and Iris Munguia (24th, 18:10).
