2012 Twilight Classic

SPARKS, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team kicked off its 2012 season with a fourth-place finish at the Nature's Bakery Nevada Twilight Classic's 4K race at the Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks, Nev. The Rebel harriers were led by Laura Affeld, who placed 17th with a time of 15:34 in the late-night event on Saturday evening.

BYU finished first overall with 24 points and help from all five of its scoring runners placing between second and eighth. Nevada, Reno, the host of the event was second with 38 points. The Wolf Pack's top-five runners finished 14th or better, and it included Samantha Diaz's first-place time of 14:32. Third place went to Utah, who tallied 83 points.

Lauren Petersen was the second Rebel to cross the finish line with a time of 15:48 (17th) before the majority of her teammates crossed the finish line consecutively. Rounding out the UNLV finishers were: Amanda Berg 31st (16:33), Corey Honeycutt 32nd (16:40), Katie Cochran 34th (17:02), Auzsane Crowe-Carter 35th (17:20), Courtney Allen 36th (17:49) and Alison Motor 37th (19:35).

The Rebels are back in action next weekend, Sept. 15, at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
