Shearer Sets The Pace

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - UNLV cross country finished ninth as Jenni Shearer posted the Rebels' top finish for the second straight race on Saturday morning at the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State at Balboa Park.
Shearer, just a freshman running in her second meet, finished 44th at the meet, running the 5k course in a time of 20:02. She was the only Rebel to break the top 50 on Saturday as UNLV finished with a total of 280 points.
Arkansas won the meet with 31 points, pacing the 11-team field while Northern Arizona finished second (83 points) and host SDSU came in third (98 points.) Johanna Nilsson of NAU won the individual title with a time of 17:29.
Crossing the finish line after Shearer for the Rebels was Erin Hammond who finished 70th (21:19), Janessa Hoppe finished 72nd (21:27), Ali Ainsworth came in 79th (21:52), Katie Hughes was 80th (21:53), Ashley Pierce-Callihan was 83rd (22:20) and Leta Rose came in 84th (22:34) to round out the Rebels.
UNLV has this coming weekend off before heading back to California for its third-straight meet in the state as the Rebels will run at the UC Riverside Invite in Riverside.
