LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel cross country team finished second overall at its UNLV Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. The Scarlet & Gray was paced by Auzsane Crowe-Carter, who finished 11th overall with a personal-best time of 19:04.90 in the 5K race.
Southern Utah took the meet title with a team score of 15 points. The Thunderbirds were led by Shelli Morgensen and her first-place time of 18:14.27. In fact, the first 10 finishers of the race were members of the SUU squad.
UNLV was second with a team score of 59, while Dixie State took third place (68).
Amanda Berg was the second Rebel to cross the line - 16th overall - with an effort of 19:32.13. Berg was followed by Miranda Menzies (17th, 19:42.82 PB), Sara Williams (19th, 19:52.08 PB), Heather Hernandez-Shaw (22nd, 20:30.67), Arielle Steimer-Barragan (25th, 20:43.55) and Iris Munguia (26th, 20:50.11 PB).
"Today, Auzsane, Miranda and Sara ran their personal-best times," said UNLV cross country head coach Jebreh Harris. "We had some seasonal-best times, as well, with some other runners. We are ahead of where we were at this point during out last cross country season. We have to continue to grow and get better at what we do, and that's just matter of fact. I'm also happy with the turnout with the high school teams. I believe everyone competed very well and had had a great time."
The SUU men's team defeated Dixie State, 17-63, to win the dual title.
