Shearer Sets The Pace For Rebels

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Jenni Shearer finished in the top-30 for the third consecutive race and the UNLV women's cross country team finished 14th Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Shearer finished 27th, covering the 5k course in a time of 18:53.70 in what was the third meet of the freshman's career. UNLV accumulated a total of 329 points to finish 14th in the 14-team field.
Cal State Fullerton won the women's collegiate invitational race with 96 points as the Titans placed four runners in the top 25. San Jose State finished second with 102 points and Concordia came in third with 110 points. Natalie Perkins of Concordia won the individual title, cruising through the course in a time of 17:23.50.
Janessa Hoppe was the next finisher for the Rebels as she finished 70th with a time of 20:15.00. She was followed by Ashley Pierce-Callihan (71st, 20:15.6), Leta Rose (82nd, 20:55.0), Ashley Lif (85th, 21:03.30) and Katie Hughes (88th, 21:21.90).
UNLV continues its season next weekend, hosting the UNLV Invite at Floyd Lamb Park on Oct. 8.
