Rebels Finish Fourth At Home Invite

The Rebel cross country team finished fourth overall with 101 points at their own UNLV Desert Invitational held Saturday morning at Veterans Memorial Park in nearby Boulder City. Lauren Petersen was the top harrier for the Scarlet and Gray with her seventh-place finish and final 5K time of 18:45.

Utah claimed the top spot in the Invite with a total of 33 points, as all seven of its runners finished in the top 16. Susannah Hurst was the top performer for the Utes with a time of 18:23. Hillary Troutner and Macee Nielson finished fourth (18:42) and seventh (18:53), respectively, for Utah.

The Rebels had six runners place between 20th and 29th on the day. Melissa Cortes was the second Rebel to cross the finish line with a time of 19:56. Larissa Davis (20:05) was 23rd, while Laura Affeld (20:09) was 25th. Auszane Crowe-Carter (20:27), Ali Bartosch (20:31) and Amanda Berg (20:39) finished consecutively in 27th, 28th and 29th, respectively.

Rounding out the six-team field after first-place Utah was Nevada, Reno (57 points) in second and San Diego State (99) in third. UNLV was fourth and followed by Cal State Northridge (106) and Dixie State (149).



The Invitational consisted of four races with a Boy's 5K, Girl's 5K and a Men's 8K.
