CHICAGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebel cross country team finished in 11th place with 350 points at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola University Chicago at Montrose Beach Saturday afternoon. Northwestern University (53 points) edged out McMaster University (56 points) by three points for the title.
Lauren Petersen paced the Rebel harriers for the third consecutive meet with a seventh place showing covering the 5K distance in 18:05. Petesen finished six spots behind McMaster's Jessica Pearo, who ran the course in 17:33 for the individual crown.
The runners did not have the best of conditions to run in with the temperature hovering around 50 degrees, wind gusts between 30-40 mph and rain.
"With over 500 runners representing 41 full teams, this is one of the largest fields of any meet in the country," noted head coach Tony Houchin. "To be close to finishing in the top 10 is a solid performance for the team. Having an individual runner finish seventh overall is a big boost for the squad."
Alison Bartosch came in 27th with a time of 18:37. Sarah Muniz was 52nd (18:57), Courtney Allen came in 136th (19:37), Shannon Simpson finished 181st (19:57). Lucy Beuster (263rd, 20:32), Ali Motor (272, 20:38) and Samantha Swan (281, 20:45) rounded out the contingent of Rebel runners.
The Rebels return to action in Northern California when they race at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 16.
