Terre Haute, Ind. - The UNLV cross country team competed in the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind. Saturday morning, finishing 34th in the team White Division. The meet was hosted by Indiana State University, and was run on the 6,000 meter LaVerne Gibson Course, the same course as the NCAA National Meet will be run this year.
Charlotte Browning was again the top finisher for the Rebels, running the course in 21:55 good for 109th place. Jenni Shearer and Ashley Silva were the next in for the Rebels, clocking times of 23:26 (203rd) and 23:55 (212th), respectively.
Colorado's Jenny Barringer was the winner of the White Division, racing the course in 19:49. Brianna Felnagle of UNC finished second overall in 19:57, as her and Barringer were the only harriers under the 20-minute mark.
Princeton topped the team totals, as they had five finishers in the top 48 runners. The Tigers were led by Liz Costello's seventh place finish in 20:26. Arizona State, Michigan, Washington and Illinois rounded out the top-five in a 35-team field.
UNLV is off next weekend before traveling to San Diego, Calif. for the 2007 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championship at Mission Bay Park. This is the first time ever that the MWC Championships will be held in Mission Bay, which will also play host to the 2008 U.S. Cross Country Championships in February.
