2012 Northridge Invitational Results

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel cross country team claimed the Northridge Invitational title after scoring 59 points in the 5K race held early Saturday morning in Northridge, Calif. UNLV's Lauren Petersen was the individual winner with a final time of 17:54.51. Overall, the Scarlet & Gray had all five of its scoring participants place in the top 25 of finishers.

UNLV outdistanced itself from the host Cal State Northridge by six points - 59 to 65 - for the win. Just two weeks ago, the two squads shared the UNLV Desert Invitational championship, a 5K held at Veterans Park in Boulder City, Nev.

"This was a great morale booster for our program," said head cross country coach Jebreh Harris. "We fought hard and each member of the team was there for each other. Almost everyone had a seasonal or personal best. I'm very proud of how we performed today!"

Central Arizona finished third overall with 75 points. Los Angeles Trade Tech (89 points), Pepperdine (92) and CSU Bakersfield (124) rounded out the six-team field.

Corey Honeycutt, who crossed the finish line 14th - 10th for scoring purposes, finished the race with a time of 18:55.71. The final three Rebels to score did so before the clock reached the 20-minute mark. Courtney Allen (19th/14th in 19:05.33), Auzsane Crowe-Carter (21st/16th in 19:09.68) and Laura Affeld (23rd/18th in 19:10.81) rounded out the quintet of scorers.

UNLV also had six others participate in the race: Amanda Berg (19:15.69), Katie Cochran (19:16.70), Kelsey Williamson (19:24.21), Sara Williams (19:40.60), Miranda Menzies (19:42.07), Iris Munguia (21:35.74) and Alison Motor (21:57.80).

"The team showed a lot of fight and, I was very impressed with the team dynamics under the guidance of Coach Harris," said Yvonne Wade, UNLV's head track & field coach. "It is definitely a step in the right direction for our distance program."

The Rebels will return to action at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships in Las Vegas on Oct. 26.
