Rebels Finish Sixth In Riverside|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team finished sixth overall (195 points) at the Highlander Invitational, which was contested at the Ag/Ops course adjacent to UC Riverside's campus. Five Rebel runners registered personal-best times in the women's 5K, including Spencer Moore, who ran a time of 17:49.9 -- the eighth-best performance in program history -- to finish 12th.
The Scarlet & Gray also got 5K personal bests from Elisa Rovere (20th/18:07.9), Emma Wahlenmaier (31st/18:20.1), Lindy Eskin (58th/18.52.2) and Avi'Tal Perteete (109th/20:42.0). Yamilet Biggers (120th/21:24.1) rounded out the Rebel contingent.
Three Big West squads finished 1-2-3 with UC Santa Barbara winning the team title with 50 points. Cal State Fullerton (67) and UCR were second and third, respectively. UCSB's Jenna Hinkle won the 5K in a time of 16:48.0 and was followed by UCR's Faith Makau (2nd/17:01.2) and Weslie Pearce (17:14.0).
STAT OF THE MEET: UNLV had five runners record personal bests in the 5K.
REBEL OF THE MEET: Moore ran a personal-best time of 17:49.9, which was 25.2 seconds faster than her previous best posted during her freshman campaign at the 2014 UNLV Invitational.
QUOTABLE: "We ran well today," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "I am happy how we went after it in the beginning and finished strong. We competed well and I'm loving the positive energy that we have with the group."
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels return to Albuquerque, N.M., for the second time this season in two weeks for the Mountain West Championships. The women's 6K is scheduled for October 27 at New Mexico's North Golf Course.
RED REBEL 5K RUN: The UNLV track & field program hosts its inaugural Red Rebel 5K Run on UNLV's campus Sunday morning. The event kicks off homecoming week, which will culminate with the Rebels' football game against Utah State on October 21 (3:00 pm), and also helps celebrate the University's 60th anniversary.
During the 5K run/walk participants will be blasted with red powder to show pride in our University as part of the fun-filled day. Registration opens at 7:00 am and runs until 8:10 am, with a group warm up and stretch to follow at 8:15 am. The 5K color run is slated to begin at 8:30 am, while the one-mile walk will start at 8:35 am.
